Market Rabbit Rules
Chairman: Alli Ames
Advisor: Hali Wagner
The market rabbit division is subject to all rules listed under the general rules.
An entry fee of $30.00 must be paid at the small animal tag-in. No refund of entry fee.
The exhibitor can purchase or raise their meat pen rabbits. The rabbits must be owned and cared for at the exhibitor’s residence from the day of validation to the day of the show.
T
he market rabbits (meat pen) must be tattooed with the official Dayton FFA Livestock Show tattoo to be eligible to show. Rabbits should be tattooed with personal identification in the left ear prior to arriving for the official Dayton Show tattoo. Either an Agriscience teacher or 4-H rabbit leader must supervise tattooing. An additional $2 per rabbit will be charged to tattoo each animal.
This only applies in the case that the exhibitor has failed to ID the animal prior to validation.
Each student may exhibit only one pen of rabbits.
Only meat pens will be shown. A pen shall consist of 3 rabbits of either sex and must be of the same pure breed. Each rabbit should not be over 70 days old on the day of the show and must weigh at least 3 pounds 8 ounces and not exceed 5 pounds 8 ounces.
There will be a weight tolerance of 0.05 pound.
All rabbits will be weighed-in at 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. on the Thursday of the show week. Pens underweight or diseased will be sifted and will not be accepted. Exhibitors may bring only four (4) rabbits to the sifting table and pen only three (3).
Rabbits that do not make the weigh-in on the Thursday of the show week will be released immediately after the weigh-in.
No rabbits will be shown with ear cankers, sore hocks or colds. Judging rules will follow the ARBA Standard of Perfection.
